Treating facial redness
September 24, 2008
REDNESS of the face is common and usually benign, but it can be an unsightly problem for some people.
According to Avene Dermatological Laboratories, facial redness is the result of dilation of the skin’s
capillaries and is invariably accompanied by increased skin sensitivity.
The redness generally occurs on the of the sides of the nose and cheekbones .
According to dermatologist Shen Xin, medical and training director of Avene China:
“The initial signs are fleeting, in the form of short attacks of congestion called ‘flushes’,” says .
Such flare-ups commonly occur after the consumption of very hot or alcoholic beveragesheavy or after spicy
meals. They can also be caused by emotional shock and temperature changes.
Redness can become permanent over time. There are several rules to follow for people whose skin is prone to redness:
- should eat slowly and make sure food is not too hot
- avoid spicy food and alcoholic drinks
- do not overindulge in stimulants
- do not stay unders the sun too much
- be sure to use a sunscreen.
In addition, following a well-adapted skin care program is important. Avene provides a range of anti-redness products from cleansers, sprays and creams to foundations and concealers.
Formulated with Avene thermal spring water, vasculo-protective and decongestant active ingredients, the
anti-redness line regulates cutaneous micro-circulation and protects fragile skin from climatic aggression.
Apart from redness, other skin issues afflicting more adults than ever before are oily skin and acne.
Adults often have sensitive skin, or a combination of skin conditions in addition to acne, which makes treatment
more challenging than treatment of teens who generally have a more resilient, uniform oily skin condition.
For this reason, Dermalogica researched and developed MediBac Clearing, the 24-hour treatment system
specifically formulated with state-of-the-art technology to treat, clear and prevent adult acne.
Each product, with its unique acne-fighting ingredients, is designed to be layered onto skin to provide
around-the-clock, maximum control of the factors that contribute to acne.
